Tonight at 8 EST, President Bush will hold his first news conference since November. I am surprised to learn his reason for not holding many news conferences, and even more surprised that the AP saw fit to print it. Apparently he doesn't much care for the preening celeb-reporters. Yes, it is an ugly site to see reporters try to sound so important while asking really stupid questions (see Dan Rather in Baghdad), or to see Helen Thomas attack from beneath her veil of senility. While there would be less preening if these news conferences weren't so rare, there would also be a greater opportunity for a slip of the tongue to be twisted against the President (see, the Dems fishing expedition, Republicans Can't Stop Estrada Filibuster).
