Who's in the Top 8?

Well, if you were following the Federal Review Computer Basketball Rankings, you'd have known that Davidson had a good shot at the Elite 8. I had them ranked #8. BEFORE the NCAA tournament began.

One guy had them number 6. Another guy had them at number 4.

And one dude ranked them #82 before the tournament.

College Basketball Computer Rankings

Top Ten.
1. Kansas
2. Memphis
3. North Carolina
4. Duke
5. UCLA
6. Marquette
7. Wisconsin
8. Tennessee
9. Texas A&M
10. Xavier
The ACC is the best conference - despite a down year. That's because all but one of its teams are in the top 100. Only NC State fails to make the grade, coming in at 104.

Kansas is #1

I think I had a similar title a few weeks back, but that was football. This is the College Basketball Computer Ratings. Duke slides in at #2 despite a loss to Pitt, but since that was a 1 point loss to the #12 ranked team, it didn't hurt them too much. The Tar Heels are #4. They'd be higher if they had a stronger schedule and if they beat crummy Nicholls St. by more than 10. In any case, it's all coming together. But Memphis needs a stronger schedule if they really want to prove themselves. Beating a Georgetown team who has played on one, doesn't help enough.

College Basketball Computer Rankings

Sure it's early in the season, but Kansas is #1 (seems I had them #1 in football once). In any case, I have the empirically evil Blue Devils at #2 and God's Team, the UNC Tar Heels at #5. Which certainly proves that I don't bias these analyses to favor my teams. Just as I did in the 2004 election (and am preparing for the 2008 election). I just want a logical, reasoned, correct snapshot of today.

Plus, I have conference computer ratings as well, with 10 ACC teams in the top 100, and 6 in the field of 64. Second best conference? The PAC 10, with 8 in the field of 64 (ACC skews high because of some very damn good teams).

So, please give me some props for my OCD hard work.

College Basketball Computer Ratings are Up

You can find them here.

It's early, so all of the teams are not linked. You can really see the effect of this with the North Carolina and Davidson ratings. After UNC defeated Davidson by 4 and them romped over Iona, the Tar Heels were ranked in the Top 10. And based on Davidson's close loss to UNC, coupled with UNC's drubbing of Iona, Davidson ranked 37th. Then, Davidson got beat by #118 W. Michigan, who has a loss to #111 Pacific by 14 and defeated #231 Loyola Chicago by 2 and #128 Detroit by 1. So, UNC is 4 points better than Davidson, who is 7 points worse than W. Michigan, who is 14 points worse than Pacific and 1 point better than Detroit.

The result, Davidson's loss pulled UNC from the top 10 down to #32. Davidson plunged from #37 to #154.

It will be a couple of weeks before all teams are linked, but in the meantime, enjoy watching big movement with every game. Current poll number 1 UCLA is ranked 5. Wisconsin is #1.

Coming soon, updates for the presidential race.
